Arming and Departure of the Knights
The Arming and Departure of the Knights tapestry is from a series called The Quest of the Holy Grail designed in the 1890's by Morris & Co. The series was first commissioned by the Australian millionaire W. K. D'Arcy and was inspired by Malory's famous poem Morte d'Arthur. Designed by Edward Burne-Jones (1833 - 1898), William Morris (1834 - 1896) and John Henry Dearle (1860 - 1932) between 1892 and 1895 it features 5 pieces, each recounting a different part of the story of King Arthur's search for the Holy Grail. The tapestry above, correctly titled The Arming and Departure of the Knights was the second in the series, and we see the ladies of the court help the knights prepare - Queen Guinevere hands a sword to Sir Lancelot; Sir Gawaine is seated on the far right.

Below is the Arming and Departure of the Knights tapestry hanging in the home of Don and Mona in Los Angeles. They wrote: "I thought that the previous tapestry that I purchased from you would prepare me for the vibrant, magnificent colors, the thickness of the cloth. I wasn't prepared. It is magnificent, beyond what I could have expected. The quality of the works that you offer are amazing. I could go on for an hour. Thank you for this very special piece. My Wife and I put it on the wall after I painted a background color around it, to highlight and frame it. I've attached a photo that I just took. The photo doesn't do it justice. Many thanks and I look forward to other perchases from you." They also posted a Google Review after purchasing one of the medieval Promenade tapestries.
