The Oath of Pontida tapestry

The Oath of Pontida tapestry depicts a very intriguing narrative a painting by Mose Bianchi (1840-1904) showing the ceremonial oath taken at Pontida in 1167 which joined the Lombard League against the Holy Roman Empire. In the right hand corner, the words Il Giuramento are inscribed, which means The Oath in Italian. There are four holy men within the circle, clearly identifiable by their clothes. To the right, two noble men together, defined by their rich attire. To the left, three more men look on, who have a large text in front of them. In this composition, the presence of the Holy Cross above the men, implicates that they are invoking God as their witness.

This Italian tapestry is woven in a cotton and viscose blend and fully lined with a rod pocket - we supply instructions to hang a tapestry with each order.
